Enjoy a breathtaking view from Mt. Fuji and visit the historical mountain resort area of Hakone. Explore Kyoto's 1,200 years of history with a visit to the Tokugawa era shogun's residence, Nijo Castle, and the gold-leaf covered Golden Pavilion and its exquisite surrounding garden. Visit Kyoto Imperial Palace and see its elegant interiors. Walk through Sanjusangendo Temple, Japan's longest wooden structure, and browse the specialty shops on the walk up to Kiyomizudera Temple, where you can enjoy a sweeping view of the city. Admire Heian Jingu Shrine, a partial replica of the Imperial Palace.
Depart from Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal by motorcoach for Mt. Fuji (travel time a total of 120 minutes).
Transfer to Mt Fuji 5th Station in about 30 minutes. Climb 2,300 meters (7,546 feet!) above sea level for breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji and the surrounding lakes on a clear day. Torii gates, shrines, and souvenir shops decorate this station known as the border between the heavens and the earth. Enjoy a Japanese-style lunch.
In the afternoon, go for a sightseeing cruise on Lake Ashi in Hakone. The crater lake was born from a powerful volcanic eruption nearly 3,000 years ago and provides postcard views of Mt. Fuji from various angles. Then, catch sweeping views of Mt. Fuji, Lake Ashi, Izu Peninsula, Izu Islands, Hakone National Park, and more while climbing up and down the mountain on Mt Komagatake Ropeway.
Toward the end of the day, proceed to Odawara Station to board the Hikari or Kodama Shinkansen to the classical city of Kyoto (total of 120 to 180 minutes travel time). A transfer may be required at either Nagoya or Shizuoka. Upon arrival at Kyoto Station, you will be dropped off at your hotel. For your accommodations, you can choose a hotel from the hotel list below.
Do some morning sightseeing around the city, visiting Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion), Nijo Castle which is noted for its gorgeous interiors, and Kyoto Imperial Palace. After lunch at Hotel Heian-no Mori Kyoto, go on an excursion to Nara, the first permanent capital of Japan. Visit Todaiji Temple which houses a Great Buddha, colorful Kasuga Taisha Shrine which boasts 3000 lanterns, and Nara Park (Deer Park) where there are many freely-roaming, tame deer.
Return to Kyoto.
You have free time until your departure back to Tokyo. In the early evening, head to Kyoto Station and board the Nozomi Shinkansen back to Tokyo. Upon arrival at Tokyo Station, you will be dropped off at your hotel.

When the driveway up to Mt.Fuji's 5th station is closed in winter due to heavy snow, you will go up highest possible point. *Even if you go up to 5th station of Mt. Fuji, it so happens that you cannot see the full view of Mt. Fuji due to the weather conditions . We shall never make any refund and also never cancel the tour operation for this reason.
Hakone Ropeway or Cruise on Lake Ashi may also be omitted or substituted depending on traffic, weather conditions, or for other operational reasons. In this case, you will enjoy one in case of either of them omitted or two for both of them omitted out of following alternatives: Narukawa Museum in Hakone, Hakone Check Point, Cruise on Lake Kawaguchi, Hakone-en Aquarium, Hakone shrine, and Lake Kawaguchi Ropeway.
We recommend bringing an overcoat or other warm clothing during autumn and winter.
Please note that your arrival time in Kyoto is usually around 21:30 but sometimes will be around 22:00-23:00 due to traffic conditions.
On Tuesdays in Jan., Jul., Aug. & Dec., Nijo Castle is closed, thus we will visit "Ryoanji Temple" instead.
*The Kyoto Imperial Palace is closed every Monday (Tuesday if Monday is a National Holiday), on 28 December 2016 to 4 January 2017 and whenever there is an Imperial Household event. On these days, tour will visit Kitano Tenmangu Shrine instead.

Chishaku Temple will be visited when Heian Jingu Shrine is closed to Jidai Festival on October 22nd. If the festival is postponed, changes in the itinerary may also be postponed.
On Jan 25, May 25, and August 25, in substitution of Kitano Tenmangu, the tour visits Nishi Honganji.

Depart Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal and head to Mt. Fuji by bus!
Mt. Fuji 5th Station (30 mins)
Start the ascent up Mt. Fuji via the Fuji Subaru Line. Climb 2,300 meters (7,546 ft) above sea level for breathtaking views from above the clouds.

Lake Ashi Cruise (15 mins)
Afterwards, enjoy a refreshing sightseeing cruise on Lake Ashi. The crater lake was born from a powerful volcanic eruption nearly 3,000 years ago and provides picture-perfect views of the magnificent Mt. Fuji.
Mt. Pasarela Komagatake (50 mins)
Then ride a comfortable ropeway to the peak of Mt. Komagatake from Hakone-en. Upon reaching the top, catch spectacular sights of Mt. Fuji and its surrounding landscapes from a different angle.
Odawara Station (120~180 mins)
Head to Kyoto on the Hikari or Kodama bullet train!

The arrival time in Kyoto may be later than scheduled, around 22:00 - 23:00, due to traffic congestion and other reasons.

Participants will be taken by taxi from Kyoto Station to their hotels. An English-speaking staff member will guide participants to the taxi, but will not ride along in the taxi.

Nijo Castle (50 mins)
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this dramatic castle was once home to the Tokugawa Shogun! Nijo Castle is closed on Tuesdays in January, July, August, and December (Closed on the following day if Tuesday is a holiday.) If closed, the Ryoanji Temple will be visited instead.
Kinkakuji Temple (45 mins)
Also known as the 'Temple of the Golden Pavilion', the wooden temple is covered in thin layers of pure gold and is surrounded by a beautiful pond. It is one of the 17 locations that make up the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto.
Kyoto Imperial Palace or Kitano Tenmangu Shrine (40 mins)
See the Kyoto Imperial Palace, which was used as the Emperor's residence until about 150 years ago. On Mondays (and Tuesdays if a national holiday falls on the preceding Monday), this tour will visit Kitano Tenmangu Shrine instead.

Nara Park & Todaiji Temple (Great Buddha) (60 mins)
Also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is the symbol of the Nara Period and one of the world's largest wooden structures. Explore this historic temple which was constructed in 752 and see for yourself its huge main hall and bronze Great Buddha that are impressive to behold.
Kasuga Taisha Shrine (40 mins)
Discover Nara's most celebrate shrine, the Kasuga Taisha, and marvel at its famous lanterns which were donated by worshipers. Today, this Nara Period shrine is designated as a World Heritage Site. Also, the deer of Nara Park are thought to be the shrine messengers.
Nara Nagomikan (20 mins)
Finally, visit the largest souvenir shop in Nara. Enjoy yourself in this spacious shop and look for the perfect souvenirs to bring back home.

Children (ages 0-5 years) will be able to participate for free under the following conditions. Tour: An individual seat will not be provided. Please have them sit on the lap of their parent or guardian. If there are seats available, they are welcome to use it, however they will not be getting a priority in seating. An individual meal or snack will not be provided as well.
Accommodations: An extra bed or futon mat will not be provided. In the case meals are included in the accommodation, a separate meal will not be prepared. If you would like any of the above for children (ages 0-5 years), please book them as a child.
Mt. Fuji's 5th station is typically 10 to 15 degrees Celsius colder than Tokyo. On tours from autumn to spring, please bring a coat and other warm clothing.
This is a special tour for international visitors. Please understand that residents of Japan cannot make bookings for this tour.
Customers will carry their own baggage. There is not much space on the Shinkansen or bus, so it is recommended that you leave large items such as suitcases at your hotel in Tokyo.
The trip from Odawara to Kyoto on Day 1 may require a train transfer midway at Shizuoka or Nagoya station. If so, a staff member will assist participants in transferring. If the tour runs late due to traffic congestion, etc, and misses the scheduled train, transportation from Odawara to Kyoto will be on non-reserved seats on the Shinkansen, and participants may not be able to sit down.
When the road to Mount Fuji's 5th Station is closed due to snow or other reasons, the tour will go to the highest elevation point possible. No alternative destinations are planned when the tour reaches beyond the 1st station. When the tour has to turn back at the 1st station or when the Fuji Subaru Line is completely blocked, the tour will visit Fujisan World Heritage Center or Lake Kawaguchi Oishi Park. Please note that an alternative itinerary may also be omitted depending on road conditions.
The tour will not be cancelled or refunded even if Mt. Fuji is not fully visible due to weather conditions.
The Lake Ashi Cruise or Hakone Komagatake Ropeway may be omitted due to traffic, weather conditions or other operational concerns. In such cases, the following alternatives may be used: Hakone-en Aquarium, Hakone Ropeway, Owakudani valley, Hakone Sightseeing Cruise (pirate ship), Narukawa Art Museum, Hakone Sekisho, Lake Kawaguchi Cruise, Lake Kawaguchi Ropeway or Itchiku Kubota Art Museum. The tour will not be cancelled or refunded in case of a change in itinerary.
The tour will not be cancelled or refunded for such itinerary alteration. The English interpreter guide will make decisions regarding itinerary alterations.
This tour will not enter Heian Jingu Shrine's Shin-en garden.
During the Jidai Festival on October 22, Heian Jingu Shrine is closed to the public and will be replaced in the itinerary by Chishaku-in Temple. If the Jidai Festival is postponed, we will follow suit with the itinerary change.
On Tuesdays (Wednesday if Tuesday is a national holiday) in January, July, August, and December, Nijo Castle is closed. The tour will visit Ryoan-ji Temple instead.
On Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays, Kyoto Imperial Palace is closed. On these days, the tour will visit Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. The same is true of the period before and after the public viewing of Kyoto Imperial Palace in spring and autumn, May 14 - 17 due to the Aoi Festival, New Year's holidays, and whenever there is an Imperial Household event.
The annual Mt. Fuji Hill Climb will be held on a weekend in June (schedule for 2018 is yet to be determined). Please be aware that the itinerary order and destinations to be visited are subject to change. Furthermore, please note that refunds will not be issued in this case, and customers will not be notified separately when the schedule has been determined.
